Organizational Chart

The Clinical Investigations Branch (CIB) is responsible for

  • Scientific and administrative coordination of the Clinical Trials Cooperative Group Program
  • Organization of comprehensive programs of preliminary and definitive clinical trials of new treatments or combined modality therapy for each specific malignancy in adults and children
  • Development, organization, and scientific review of investigational programs to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of specific types and methods of cancer therapy, including curative and adjuvant therapy
  • Facilitation and organization of clinical research concerning the roles of surgical and radiation therapy, in addition to chemo-, biologic, and immunotherapy, in the care and treatment of cancer patients
  • Collaboration with other CTEP branches and NCI staff on disease-oriented issues related to clinical trials supported by the Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD)
  • Coordinates, in conjunction with other NCI programs, the collection, banking, and use of clinical specimens, including tumor specimens, and the procedures for utilizing these specimens in conjunction with validated clinical data
  • Liaison with international clinical trials organizations and coordination of international planning of phase III trials
  • In collaboration with Clinical Trials Cooperative Groups, consortia, cancer centers, and other entities, the development of research standards and harmonization of research methodologies such as outcome criteria, and novel clinical trials designs
