Gary L. Smith, Chief, Clinical Trials Monitoring Branch (CTMB)

Gary L. Smith was appointed Branch Chief in January 2011. Gary received the degree of Master in General Administration with concentration in Healthcare Administration from the University of Maryland, and a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. He began his career as a Medical Technologist for the Hematology Service in the Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Gary has been a Clinical Trials Monitoring Specialist in CTEP since 1988, and serving as Associate Chief since October 2008. In this capacity, Gary has distinguished himself as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals responsible for evaluating, implementing, and monitoring clinical trials of investigational agents sponsored by the Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis within NCI. He is the Project Officer for the Clinical Trials Monitoring Service contract. During his tenure in this position, he has attended over 200 cancer center site visits, and coordinated and/or audited countless other cancer center site visits and/or Network Group audits.
