William C. Timmer, PhD

In Memoriam (9/22/1952 - 12/28/2021)

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. William (Bill) Timmer in late December 2021. Dr. Timmer joined CTEP as a Program Director in the Clinical Grants and Contracts Branch in 2007. In 2018, he became a Program Director in the Clinical Investigations Branch. He managed a portfolio of clinical grants involving brain, head and neck, lung, liver, colorectal, pancreatic, and sarcoma cancers, plus neuroblastoma, retinoblastoma and neurofibromatosis. He was the CTEP representative to the Informatics Technology for Cancer Research program, as well as the Program Director for the Adult Brain Tumor Consortium, the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study, and the Neurofibromatosis NF-1 Consortium.

Bill had been a highly valued and respected colleague at the NCI over the course of his career. As a Program Director, Bill was instrumental in funding investigators who, in turn, helped discover new lifesaving protocols to treat lung cancer and other malignant tumors. His knowledge and skills also helped to build relationships with leading cancer researchers around the country with the goal of improving cancer patient outcomes.
